WHERE DOES MY SPONSORSHIP MONEY GO?

100% of sponsorship money is given to individual children who are chosen by sponsors. This money is given twice a year direct to families through in country managers of HRA.

HOW IS IT MONITORED?

HRA Director and personnel visit several times a year to check individual needs and meet with children and family members. This enables us to confirm the benefits or assess extra needs of each child. Often, additional funds are given to cover special needs.

WHAT PERCENTAGE OF FUNDING COVERS WHAT NEEDS?

About 65% of sponsorship covers education costs. 15% is used for medical requirements; 10% is used for clothing above the education uniforms. 10% supplements  food and water needs.

WHY IS THERE NO ADMINISTRATION COST DEDUCTED?

Laser Sight Centres Australia are HRA’s major sponsor, and meet all administration and additional costs, therefore allowing donors and sponsors to see all their contributions reach a recipient child or program. Dr Peter Stewart is also Patron of Heart Reach Australia.

WHAT FREEDOM DO YOU HAVE TO IDENTIFY CHILDREN PUBLICLY?

Permission is given by families before photographs are used, however to ensure privacy and in line with the global stand against illegal intent some may have, we only use a name and area where a child is located. Additional information is retained by the HRA administration. It is of absolute importance that the safety, privacy and dignity of sponsored children are protected at all times.

IF I SPONSOR A CHILD MAY I VISIT THEM?

In most instances, this can be arranged. Currently, the HRA management and administrators of sponsorship have agreement with parents and local authorities for sponsors to meet children in a secure location, and with HRA personnel. Each situation may vary.

HOW LONG DOES MY SPONSORSHIP LAST?

Sponsorships continue for as long as you choose. Monthly or annual payments are normally given, and sponsors are encouraged to maintain these through the school life of each child. This is similar to most countries, and includes about 12 years of education. Some may wish to further assist with tertiary education, and therefore continue sponsorship beyond the school period.

WHEN CAN I STOP SPONSORING, OR MAKE CHANGES TO IT?

We ask for three months notice where possible, to try and gain sponsors to fill the gap. However personal circumstances are according to each one’s situation. In addition, some choose to increase payments, or add extra children. This is usually done immediately notice is received.

HOW DOES HRA SELECT CHILDREN OR AREAS FROM WHICH TO CHOOSE CHILDREN?

After 20 years of working in Vietnam, where most sponsorships are located, HRA Director and personnel know well the needs and situations. However, those involved ‘on the ground’ and who have daily interaction with the population, refer specific needs and families to us for sponsorship as it is available. Priority is given according to need, location, environment, health, life situation etc.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT FROM HEART REACH AUSTRALIA IF I SPONSOR A CHILD?

First, our gratitude, on behalf of the children and their families, for giving them a chance to gain a quality of life. In addition, while we try to maintain website updates, sponsors are given reports from each child twice a year, or is special circumstances apply.
At the time of sponsorship, a certificate with details of the child and a photo, is sent to sponsors.  This also gives an overview of the child’s situation, life needs, education and  family . Additional program information is on the website and people are encouraged to check this regularly.  At the end of each financial year, a receipt is issued for tax claims. (HRA is a registered tax deductible Entity. No 14 924 823 901. Charity No. CH1358)

WHAT OTHER PROGRAMS DO YOU HAVE TO SUPPORT MY SPONSORSHIP?

HRA has built a Medical Clinic in the Ben Tre region, where many of the poor families are located. Tis offers free care and medication, and gives health education seminars as well as emergency care to all families in the program. These facilities are being developed in other regions as we can gain funding. All areas of need are addressed by personnel when they visit children, and any additional needs or special program development are often added as required.

WHERE ARE CHILDREN LOCATED?

Currently we sponsor children in Vietnam, with most in the South, but growing numbers in the Central regions, as well as some of the remote rural villages.
We have many children in Sri Lanks awaiting sponsorship, but these children are currently part of HRA village programs, until more sponsors can be found for individual situations.

HOW DO I CHOOSE A CHILD TO SPONSOR?

This is as easy as going to the webpage and viewing pictures and details, before making contact with the HRA office on the form provided. If the child is not sponsored (sometimes mor than one person may apply about the same time) we will confirm details and payment options with you by return email. Payment options are provided in the web page also.
