About Dr Peter Stewart, HRA Patron

Peter Stewart, MBBS (QLD), FRACO

Ophthalmologist - Refractive Eye Surgeon

Over the past few years, Dr Stewart has been an enthusiastic participant in Kiribati, where the eye surgery performed in this remote area is sponsored by AUSaid and the Australian College of Surgeons. This area of his humanitarian 'heart' is fitted into a very busy day to day schedule, which has also been interrupted by trips to Viet Nam and other third-world regions, where he has been committed to train local medical personnel, perform operations, and do what he can to assist the doctors in developing Nations to gain much needed skills, so they may better help their own people.

As Patron of Heart Reach Australia, Dr Stewart has been involved first hand in Viet Nam, where his expertise and experience both practical and in training, has been invaluable in helping build, and rebuild, the emerging medical skills in this developing country.

Dr Stewart, in partnership with the Qld Eye Institute, also participates in training of Vietnamese Ophthalmologists, who are brought to Australia as part of the HRA scholarship program. His global reputation and recognition will undoubtedly assist in bringing other medical surgeons and specialists into these regions to join the critically needed medical aid programs of Heart Reach Australia.
